I followed the measurement guide to the letter and ordered the size recommended. When I first put on the shoes they felt snug and just touch the tip of my big toe. I attempted to install my arch supports and holy cow were the shoes tight. Being new to the cycling thing I though this could be normal. After a few rides, my feet were so uncomfortable. I can use the shoes with their provided liners ok. But I cannot use them with custom arch supports. I should have gotten 1/2 size bigger.
On a positive note, these shoes are very stiff and stable. I like that I can push my cleats back very far. My calves no longer fatigue as bad as when I wore my other more flexible shoes. I absolutely love the wide fit for my "Fred Flinstone" feet.
I wish that I had discovered Lake a long time ago. These are by far the best (wide) fitting cycling shoes I ever had.
This is my 3rd pair of Lakes. The first pair (CX161) had 6-7 years of reliable and comfortable use before finally being retired. Replaced it with a CX238 and have been using it for about 3 years before getting this CX218 as a backup, incase the CX238 gets wet! All 3 shoes are comfortable and stiff enough for me to use for centaury rides. I find the toe box of the CX218 to be slightly bigger that the CX238 or it could be because it has only one BOA fastener. These shoes fit me very well. Highly recommended.
Fits great! Very confortable!
I returned these and got ZERO hassle- thanks for that, Lake! Ended up buying shoes that cost $100 more due to oddly shaped feet - but I wished these had been a fit for me; they were so nice!
