In New Zealand the bike shoe range doesn't cater well for high insteps, wide feet, nerve compression. When I was younger I could wear tighter shoes but as I've aged my feet have become wider and more prone to compression issues. Lake shoes are excellent. Fit is true when compared to my specialized and Shimano shoes. The shoes are at the high end in terms of money but the fit and feel are a no brainer. A very happy customer.
After wearing Giro Empire ACC shoes for the last several years, my feet started feeling very cramped in the toe box. This created a Hot Foot sensation in addition to redness and soreness on the metatarsal of the small toe as well. I started researching wide cycling shoes and found Lake Cycling as part of that search. I purchased a pair of the CX241 Wide and the difference it has made is significant. The wide toe box has eliminated most of the Hot Foot issue that I was experiencing before, and the Metatarsalgia that I experienced in the small toe has significantly been reduced as well. The double BOA system allows me to adjust the shoes as I need for fit and comfort. I would recommend these shoes to anyone that has experienced similar issues.
I've needed new riding shoes for a while. A friend I ride with has Lakes and recommended them. No regrets. The white goes well with my kits and while I expected some smudging etc, a Mr. Clean sponge works great. The wide fit is great, by the way. I can tighten and loosen the shoe thanks to the two twists offered. So for colder weather, I'll keep them looser. Easy!
I bought the reflective silver/grey 39.5 wide CX241 to replace my well-loved CX217 wide (2015 model). I chose the CX241 because I liked the idea of separated panels to allow space for my bunions. The CX241 is a great shoe overall, but it is not as soft as the kangaroo leather on the CX217. So although the panels and dual lacing allows for custom adjustment to my wide feet, it does not have the same give as kangaroo leather. Note the shoe sizes seems to have changed too because I wore size 39 before compared to 39.5 in this new model. I recommend this show for wide feet.
I have a large bunion and no matter which shoes I tried there has always been a level of discomfort, everything from annoying to ‘omg I want to cut my foot off’. Not anymore… these shoes have my bunion crying tears of joy! They are so comfortable I sometimes go for a ride just for an excuse to wear them! 😃
