I've been a fan of Lake shoes for years. The fact that they use real leather puts them a step above other brands. They are well constructed and last forever. But the most outstanding feature for me at least is the fit. I love the wide toe box. Not too wide to cause my foot to slop around in the shoe, but just wide enough to keep me stable and in control of the bike. The soles are stiff enough for good power transfer but allow for comfortable running. Every time I stray from the brand and try a different company's shoes, I always come running back.
First about weight. I know your shoes are hand made but it would be helpful to see a ballpark weight listed. You guys use real leather so your shoes are a bit heavier but they are also a lot more comfortable. It's s trade off your customers are ok with. No need to hide the numbers in my opinion. Especially since I weighed a pair of XC and non XC MX238s and they were within 15 grand if each other. Given the different fit spikes and leather, that's pretty close. So the have made thing doesn't seem to produce such big variations.
As for the MX238 XC. They are better looking than the non XCs because they have a cleaner design. Obviously they are more durable against scratching. My first impression was that they were only a bit more stiff but still comfortable. After wearing them for 10 minutes in my living room the top of my foot and toes were in pain from the seam where the tongue attaches to the body of the shoe. I put my hand inside and you can feel how sharp it is. Seems like a simple fix there would go a long way.
Basically very good shoes.
