FAQ
Should I wear socks with triathlon cycling shoes?
For sprint and Olympic distance, most triathletes ride sockless. The TX224's Trek-Dry antimicrobial liner is specifically designed for barefoot comfort. For 70.3 and Ironman distances, many athletes prefer a thin sock for longer ride comfort — the TX224 works well either way.
What is the difference between triathlon and road shoes?
Triathlon shoes prioritize fast transitions: single-pull closure, sockless-compatible linings, drainage capability. Road shoes prioritize fit precision: dual BOA dials, more micro-adjustment, sometimes heat-moldable heels. For pure cycling performance over hours, a road shoe like the CX333 or CX239 may be slightly better. For race-day speed including transitions, triathlon shoes win.
Can I use triathlon shoes for regular road riding?
Yes — the TX224's carbon fiber sole delivers excellent power transfer for road riding. However, the single-strap closure does not offer the same micro-adjustability as dual BOA road shoes. If you are primarily a road cyclist, we would recommend our road range.
Which width should I choose for triathlon?
Your feet swell during racing — especially after the swim. If you are between sizes or widths, go wider. It is better to have slightly more room than to have your feet compressed when they are swollen. The Wide option on the Comfort Plus Last gives the most generous fit.
