The TX224 is an industry first — the only triathlon cycling shoe available in three distinct widths, each built on a completely different last. Narrow uses our Race Last with a 100% carbon fiber sole. Regular uses our Competition Last with a carbon fiber sole. Wide uses our Comfort Plus Last with a carbon composite sole. No more cramming swollen post-swim feet into a one-size-fits-all shoe.

Every Lake triathlon shoe features Trek-Dry antimicrobial linings with carbonized bamboo for sockless comfort, 3-bolt road cleat compatibility, and closure systems designed for speed.

Choosing Your Lake Triathlon Shoe

TX224 — The Industry's First 3-Width Triathlon Shoe

Most triathlon shoes come in one width. If your feet are wide — and they will be after the swim, when blood flow increases and feet swell — you're stuck with a shoe that pinches and restricts when you need performance most.

The TX224 changes that. Three widths. Three different lasts. Three different sole constructions:

  • Narrow — CX/TX Race Last, 100% carbon fiber (Lake Race sole). A slim, second-skin fit for narrow feet.
  • Regular — CX/TX Competition Last, 100% carbon fiber (Lake Competition sole). The fit that works for most athletes.
  • Wide — CX/TX Comfort Plus Last, carbon composite. Generous forefoot, natural toe splay.

Women's variant available: TX224 Women's — Narrow width, sizes EU 36-43.

Key Features

Transition-ready closure. Hook & loop strap combined with a speed-lace draw-string system. Pull once to tighten, press to release. No fumbling with dials or buckles in T1.

Sockless comfort. The Trek-Dry antimicrobial liner with carbonized bamboo wicks moisture, prevents odor, and eliminates friction points — so you can ride sockless from the swim without worrying about blisters.

Elastic rubber band holder. Pre-position your shoes on the bike with rubber bands. Step in, clip in, ride. The bands snap away clean.

3-bolt road cleat. Compatible with Look, Shimano SPD-SL, and similar road cleat systems for maximum power transfer.

FAQ

Should I wear socks with triathlon cycling shoes?

For sprint and Olympic distance, most triathletes ride sockless. The TX224's Trek-Dry antimicrobial liner is specifically designed for barefoot comfort. For 70.3 and Ironman distances, many athletes prefer a thin sock for longer ride comfort — the TX224 works well either way.

What is the difference between triathlon and road shoes?

Triathlon shoes prioritize fast transitions: single-pull closure, sockless-compatible linings, drainage capability. Road shoes prioritize fit precision: dual BOA dials, more micro-adjustment, sometimes heat-moldable heels. For pure cycling performance over hours, a road shoe like the CX333 or CX239 may be slightly better. For race-day speed including transitions, triathlon shoes win.

Can I use triathlon shoes for regular road riding?

Yes — the TX224's carbon fiber sole delivers excellent power transfer for road riding. However, the single-strap closure does not offer the same micro-adjustability as dual BOA road shoes. If you are primarily a road cyclist, we would recommend our road range.

Which width should I choose for triathlon?

Your feet swell during racing — especially after the swim. If you are between sizes or widths, go wider. It is better to have slightly more room than to have your feet compressed when they are swollen. The Wide option on the Comfort Plus Last gives the most generous fit.
