Evolving from the CX237, Lake has improved upon performance and durability, with its high-cadence riding favorite, the Lake CX238 Road Shoe.

Shaped for a better, more comfortable fit, the Competition last increases toe pitch and heel lift, allowing the foot to expand under high pedaling pressure. Supporting the shoe is Lake's Race carbon fiber sole, offering impressive stiffness and power transfer while remaining low in weight. To protect the shoe from premature wear, the full-grain leather upper boasts a panel at the heel and a rubber bumper at the toe, plus mesh panels for proper ventilation.

Designed for high-pressure riding, the Lake CX238's wider forefoot provides the relief you need to focus on the road ahead.

CX/TX Competition Last – With a profile specifically designed for very high-cadence riding & higher pressure, our Competition last features a more curved profile than the Sport last. The main differences include increased toe pitch & heel lift, a tighter heel & a slightly wider ball girth to allow the foot to expand under high pedaling pressures.

Lake Competition 100% Carbon Fiber Sole. Available in a 3-hole cleat pattern.

Fullgrain Water Resistant Premium Leather or Clarino Microfiber and Outlast heel lining. Helcor heel panel and rubber toe bumper helps protect the upper from scuffs and scratches. Outlast temperature regulating heel and tongue lining offers a luxurious foot feel, while maintaining a breathable, durable & firm grip to your foot.

BOA® Fit System Li2 dials. The Li2 dial is the most advanced platform in cycling, offering a precise, micro-adjustable fit in both directions and designed to resist abrasion.

Love these cycling shoes! The wide size is soooo much more comfortable. No more foot numbness when I ride.

Super comfortable shoe

OMG, I couldn’t believe how comfortable the shoe was out of the box! I haven’t had much luck with orders for “wide” shoes. I haven’t received my cleats yet so a ride will be coming soon. The only downside I see & saw it on video reviews.., is the cut outs in the top of the tongue. It doesn’t look very nice but the unbelievable comfort makes up for this design issue. The heel area is a bit wide & causes some slippage when walking but it’s not a deal breaker. I would recommend this shoe to anyone looking for a wider toe box!!

Great for wide feet

I previously wore Shimano Dynalast, US 10.5, wide, which were comfortable for the first hour, but would then feel tight due to natural feet swelling with prolonged rides. I had to loosen the BOA straps considerably, which helped a lot. Still, after 5+ hours of riding, the forefeet felt squished and sore. Thus whenever I did long brick workouts (bike+run) as part of ironman training, my forefeet would ache for the first mile.

These CX238 shoes are considerably wider in the toe box, which solves all the above issues. The Lake sizing charts are surprisingly precise. I measured my feet, compared it to the sizing chart, and found that the CX238 in a European size 45, wide, would be theoretically perfect. For reference, my feet are 276mm long, 11.5mm wide, and I would say that I have a wide forefoot, normal size ankles, and no foot pathologies like neuromas or lower extremity edema. Out of the box, the shoes almost felt too big, such that I cinched down the BOA quite a bit and wondered if I should have sized down to a 44. But for rides longer than 1 hour, this excessive cinching proved unnecessary. I've only completed one 5 hour bike ride (80 miles, 2 short bathroom breaks) with these shoes so far, and had a few hiccups with ironman training such that I'm rebuilding my cycling mileage/stamina. But even though my feet were naturally a little sore on the plantar surface from continuous pedaling, my toes and forefeet weren't squished in pain like with my previous shoes.

Overall, most comfortable cycling shoes I've ever worn. Also, the all-white looks sharp!
