Painful for me.

I used the size guide and got these in a 45W. I have moderately wide feet and wear 45 or 45W in just about everything. I agree with Ben in that that the toebox shape does not seem foot shaped. Not my foot anyway. They felt wide enough and long enough on initial try-on. I pedaled a few min on the trainer w/o cleats and they seemed good, so I mounted cleats. After about an hour on the road, I could feel my middle toes bunching up and tingling. After 2 hours, they were totally numb and my pinky toes were on FIRE. I tried shifting the cleats around, adjusting the BOA tension (extremely limited with just one BOA) but nothing worked. My feet still hurt a day later.

Toebox is a bit disappointing

I previously had a pair of MX-238s which fit very well and got me through two TCRs. I bought the same size MX177 for an upcoming off-road Bikepacking event as I wanted something a little less stiff for the hike-a-bike. The length is fine and the width at the metatarsals is ok, but the toebox is pointy and not at all foot-shaped which results in some pressure on the toes and a bit of numbness. I doubt going to the wide version would work as the heel would then be too loose. Really don’t understand why Lake didn’t stick with the more rounded toebox found on the competition last. The single boa dial probably doesn’t help either - instead of making this only available as a lower cost model, why not provide a dual boa version for people that are willing to spend the money and still want a shoe that works for off-road ultras?

I am 70 years old and have been riding for 30 years. I ride lots of centuries. I currently ride 3 to 5 centuries a week, over 11,000 miles a year. Over the 30 years I have owned almost every band name MTB shoe on the market. My feet are wide and it has been very difficult to find shoes that don't kill my feet on long rides. I had to have foot surgery a couple of years ago as a result of this. My current pair of Trek shoes, the soles were totally wore out. I was unable to find a wide MTB shoe in my size anywhere. A store employee told me to check out Lake, that was the only shoe he wears. I found that they had the MX 177 in a size that would fit. I got them and they are great! They felt so good that after 2 rides I checked and found they had MX 176 on clearance and I bought them as a back up. I have been wearing them for about a month now, 1000 miles. I wish I would have heard about Lake shoes 30 years ago. After about 30 miles I used to be aware of my feet on every pedal stroke. Not anymore, I even forget to loosen them up when I stop to eat. I will not be checking anywhere else for any future bike shoes.

Perfect fit!

I've had my MX177 Wide for a little over a month and worn them nearly every day. Similar to some other reviews, they are an improvement vs the prior MX176. There is now plenty of room for my toes, and they're just as easy for walking as the MX176. I cannot remember when I had such a comfortable shoe. In fact, today I just ordered another pair, to make sure I continue to have comfy shoes when these wear out. @LAKE, I don't mind if you change the BOA arrangement, but please stay with the current geometry.
