The MX242 is a culmination of all of our experience, advanced materials, and shoe making techniques to make a shoe that offers the best fitting solution for hard to fit foot types. Made with a heat moldable heel counter and an uniquely designed upper that has enough adjustability to accommodate riders with bunions, deformation, narrow or wide feet, or a high or low instep. The separated panels allow for fine tuning the fit, relieving pressure from sensitive and painful spots on the feet.
MX Competition Last – Featuring a larger toe box & tighter heel than the Comfort last and with slightly more overall volume than the Sport last. Exceptionally secure for hard riding/racing with enough room in the toe box to prevent binding when running up inclines or negotiating a hike-a-bike section. Designed for performance riding & racing.
Lake Competition 100% Carbon Fiber Sole with Mountain Competition real rubber sole with extended protection and ground stability.
Helcor Abrasion resistant leather, Ecco Fullgrain leather and Nufoam lining with Carbon fiber support panels which help to maintain a secure fit while adding foot stability. The Helcor Abrasion resistant leather is specifically designed to be extremely durable against rubbing, scrapes and scuffing. The upper is segmented into 6 independent zones for the most flexible fit to accommodate narrow or wide feet as well as high instep and low instep feet. The moldable heel counter doubles the heel hold for a secure fit.
BOA® Fit System Li2 dials. The Li2 dial is the most advanced platform in cycling, offering a precise, micro-adjustable fit in both directions and designed to resist abrasion.

With wide feet and bunions, cycling shoes are a struggle. The old MX241 were good, but the Mx242 is a major upgrade. With an arch support insole, I’m finally very comfortable. It’s similar to finding Altra running shoes for the first time!
After a lifetime of cycling with my EE wide feet scrunched into so-called "wide" cycling shoes, I found Lake Cycling. After ordering and returning several pairs to find the best fit, I've finally found the perfect cycling shoes. It should be noted that Sean at Lake Cycling was very patient and accommodating as it took some effort to find the right size. I am grateful for his assistance.
I have being racing 100mile NUE races since 2015, and recently leaning more toward multi day bike packing challenges. I try to log 100-280miles weekly.
I'm not Stranger to purchasing $400-500 on Quality cycling shoes (From multiple S works shoes -team issued kit matching shoes, Bontranger XXX, Shimano S-Phyre carbon shoes for Pure racing with carbon and boa
-To Dozens of Training shoes mainly from Shimano line
-To Gravel/Bike packing specific shoes with classics from Giro & Shimano lace up ladder shoes to Pearl Izumi X alp shoes rated as to go shoe for muti day bike packing. (note leather is great and stretch but you will have hot spots will fully loaded bike pushing watts or after 6hr non stop ride -hence search and leap of faith toward Lake shoes.
I realized this is the very best shoe which can do it all.
Racing: Incredible power transfer wit NO hot spots & comfort and adjustment with best heel cup of all shoes listed above.
Multiday bike packing: Every person feet will swell up and you need room to give toes space. They hike way better than X-alps and the rubber sole grip better than Shimano michelin rubber soles which few years ago was massive leap forward. This rubber for me walks better and grips just as good. Finally adjustability and breathability is on another level. Yet the kevlar fibers provide excellent abrasion resistance and toe protection from rocks.
SUMMARY: Its really shame than most bike stores don't carry this brand, and that Lake don't sponsor more racing teams or high profile athletes to really promote such incredible product. I only know Sonya Looney who loves her Lake shoes. Most people are influenced to buy what they see their piers wearing and NO high performance shoes should not hurt your feet or cramp your toes after 6hr ride period.
I have some 30 pairs of shoes I will be selling on e-bay. This shoe simply does it all and I plan to buy CX version for road rides of course in white.
Too big— returned for a smaller size
So, yes, these are expensive, but totally worth it. I have wide feet but nothing else and my feet aren't super wide either. Just wide. These shoes (in wide) are super comfortable to wear, super when pedaling and when walking off the bicycle. I wore Sidi mega shoes for decades but the heel cleats are narrow and now that I'm older I felt like I was close to twisting an ankle when walking. These Lake shoes have stable mid-sole cleats and wide cleats at the heel. Easy to walk in. Super when clipped in - no hot spots, not too tight, and so on. I hope I have better luck with durability than reviewer Sam! Time will tell...
