For seamless transition on and off the bike, the TX224 is the ultimate lightweight, breathable, fast drying, and fast transitioning Triathlon shoe. The TX224 has taken a new approach to how Triathlon shoes function by not sacrificing comfort and adjustability for fast entry/exit. Our unique design allows for superior adjustment and a familiarity of a closure system that runners will appreciate. The new speed draw-string lace system is quick and easy to secure, wrapping the extended mesh upper around the foot and maximizing air flow to keep your feet fresh and ahead of the game.
Our Lake carbon fiber soles alongside the secure toe box provides a comfortable and secure fit, maximizing stability, power transfer and performance. With an added sleek but substantial rubber toe bumper, the front of the shoe is also given long term protection. The TX224 is the perfect combination of technically advanced upper materials, a secure closure system and an ultralight and stiff carbon sole.
The TX224 is an industry first to offer the same model in 3 distinct last shapes and widths. We know how individual you are, and we wanted to ensure that whatever your foot shape, Lake has the fit for you as a triathlete. For Narrow volume feet the Race Last is the correct choice, Mid-size feet the Competition Last and for larger volume feet or barefoot shoe fans the Comfort Plus Last is the perfect solution.
CX/TX RACE Last – (Narrow Width) Featuring a slightly narrower toe box and a tighter heel, with a firmer grip than the Lake Competition last, and less overall volume than our Sport last. Designed for very high-cadence riding, with a slimmer and stylish performance fit.
CX/TX Competition Last – (Regular Width) With a profile specifically designed for very high-cadence riding & higher pressure, our Competition last features a more curved profile than the Sport last. The main differences include increased toe pitch & heel lift, a tighter heel & a slightly wider ball girth to allow the foot to expand under high pedaling pressures.
CX/TX Comfort Plus Last – (Wide Width) The Comfort Plus last has the most generous forefoot platform of all of our CX/TX lasts. This last will accommodate a multitude of foot shapes and allow for toe splaying. Made for those riders who struggle to find an unrestricted shoe for the shape of their feet.
Using our Lake Carbon Fiber Soles with replaceable heel pads to maximize performance while maintaining the lightest possible shoe. Available in a 3-hole cleat pattern.
Narrow Width: Lake Race 100% Carbon Fiber Sole
Regular Width: Lake Competition 100% Carbon Fiber Sole
Wide Width: Lake Comfort Plus Carbon Composite Sole
The TX224 has a Clarino Microfiber upper with NuFoam™ breathable, wicking shell with Trek-Dry antimicrobial liner and a heel-side mounted elastic rubber band holder for setting the shoe up for fast transitions. NuFoam’s unique design works in a way that keeps your foot feeling cool and dry.
The innermost layer of the NuFoam package is Trek-Dry antimicrobial & wicking fabric made from carbonized bamboo. The Trek-dry draws moisture away from the foot towards the surface of the shoe. The middle layer of the NuFoam package is a 2mm closed cell perforated foam that works as a spacer to allow air to flow into the shoe, thus creating evaporation and maximizing comfort. This process works as a cooling system, with the evaporating moisture helping to cool the foot down, while also keeping it dry as you head towards the next transition.
Utilizing a single hook & loop strap with speed laces, the TX224 has a speed lace draw-string lace system, which is quick and easy to secure, and wraps the foot neatly in race mode with the added benefit of the Velcro strapping. It gives the athlete a micro-adjustable fit, along with maximum impact protection and durability. It can be easily adjusted prior to the event, so that the shoe slips easily on and can be secured with speed.
I bought a 43 narrow. Thought I could get into a size 42 narrow according to there sizing measurements. But I had a toe touching he end. I ride in specialized 42 normal width road shoes. I have a Morton's foot if not their measurements would be spot on. These are about the same width as my specialized torch 3.0 road shoes. The elastic closer if tight may rub against exposed skin when used without socks. I found the right tension and experience no rubbing issues during training and tris without socks. The loop closure is secure. I wish the shoes were a little more narrower. If you have a C or narrower foot you will need to modify the loop closure for a snug fit. The firm carbon last with soft uppers makes the shoe perform on the flat and/or hilly courses. I have the custom made insoles. Makes the shoes more expensive but eliminated plantar fasciitis. Entry is easy on either stationary or on the fly Tri transitions. Lighter shoe than my specialized 3.0 torch shoes with speed play (wahoo cleats). Cannot comment on durability since I have only used them for 2-3 months. I bought them on sale for $280 USA dollars. I think the price to other tri shoe bands is similar that have a carbon last.
