I gave the Lake MX238 two stars for a couple of reasons. First, I purchased the MX238 from the outlet section. The MX238 that were sent to me were not the ones as pictured on the Lake website. The ones sent had an updated full rubber outsole which did not appeal to me. Second, I am being charged a $30 handling charge for the shipping costs. Nevertheless, I did not order that particular model. Lake Cycling took it upon themselves to send an updated model and now I am being forced to incur additional costs. This is not good business. Lastly, although I am able to swap to another model of my choosing, the link that Lake CSR provide did not allow me to choose another model. The link would only allow me to choose a different size. It took a couple more back and forth emails for Lake to send a RMA form to fill out for the model of choice and send with the return pair. Frankly, the whole process has been an ordeal and most likely my last purchase of Lake Cycling shoes.
I bought these shoes to replace older Sidis and Vibram soled Giro Terraduros with one shoe. Was looking for a stiff shoe with a sole up for some hiking, specifically for the Breck Epic. I have about 10 rides on them so far and am very happy. I have a relatively narrow heel, high arch, and wide / flat forefoot. These snug up well with the Boa adjustment. My heel does not feel locked in, as it would in a narrower shoe, but it does not move while riding or hiking. The shoes are very comfortable on the bike, without any pressure points. The sole is nice for the occasional hike a bike and grip is good. Overall they seem to be just what I was looking for and I would buy them again. We'll see how the uppers and the sole hold up over 6 days of hard riding and some big hike a bikes during the Breck Epic in a few weeks. Will update ifd there are any surprises.
I am new to the gravel world. It was a bit difficult buying the $300+ shoes that are so bulky looking. However, OMG - forget the S-works, my next road shoes will also be from Lake. Super comfy and easy to care for.
It's so nice that these size 50 wides fit my monster feet, so I can concentrate on riding longer without cramped feet !!!
