The MX177 mountain bike shoe continues to raise the bar for aggressive riding on those technical trails. It offers incredible performance, stability and all-day comfort in an extremely durable and budget-friendly design. Best of all, it’s available in both regular and wide fittings.
Please note that sizes 36-38 do not accept toe spikes
MX Sport Last – This last features a larger, roomier toe-box than our Comfort last while providing increased foot control through the heel & saddle of the foot. The resulting fit is designed for aggressive riding while remaining comfortable to wear all day. Ideal for couriers, adventure cyclists & anyone else who wears their cycling shoes for long periods of time. MX177 offers incredible performance, stability and all-day comfort. Feature for feature no other shoe can be compared to the MX177 in the same category.
Our MX177 has a Supergrip Enduro Sole with Ice Lock anti-slip lug inserts. What really makes the MX177 stand out is its amazing Fiberglass injected nylon sole. Lake’s nylon sole is world famous for its uncompromising comfort, stability and performance.
We pioneered this sole and are proud to remain ahead of the pack with this industry leading product, ensuring that all your effort is transferred into performance. No other injected nylon sole offers the same level of stiffness or comfort. Combined with a real rubber sole, the MX177 is one of the most versatile cycling shoes available.
We’ve used a Clarino Microfiber & mesh upper on our CX177, giving a perfect blend of durability and breathability. The CX177 features form fitting and durable microfiber and mesh upper, with well-researched mesh placement to allow your feet to breathe. The comfortable and secure BOA® closure utilizes technical Carbitex tongue panels for reduced friction lace adjustment and comfort.
BOA® Fit System L6 dial. The L6 dial offers a precise, micro-adjustable fit, maximum impact protection and durability. It’s super secure and super comfortable and easy to adjust on the fly, too.
I bought and used 3 pair of the MX 177. The toe box collapsed on all 3 pair in less than a month. I live in Sacramento and cycle 50+ miles a day. The plastic underneath the shoe upper collasped on top of my toes. I recently sent 2 pair back at my own expense they were 200 a pair, 20 to ship at my own expense. Sean of Lake Shoes sent me back the next expensive version the MX 239 same shoe lil fancier they are like 300. I expect these to fail too, they are made just like the MX177. So not really a great deal for me, I expected better customer service after spending 600 over the last 2 years. I’ve found some Shimano’s that are working for me. I’m not to happy about it, I think my relationship with Lake Shoes is over.
I’ve always worn a 39 in Lake shoes, but this model ran large, so I exchanged for a 38. While the fit was okay, the switch to a single BOA left the shoe lacking medial support. I’ve been a fan of the previous MX177, but this redesign was a disappointment and ultimately a no-go for me.
I used the Lake sizing instruction, but it was one size too large. I sized down, which is too small..., but adequate. There is some tightness in my toes, but eons better than any shoe I have tried. Entry-level shoes deserve half-sizes too!
EXACTLY the same issue as reviewer Angus, wish I'd heeded his info. Went ahead and ordered wide size anyway, ended up with same issue:
I followed Lake's instruction to determine my size. While the construction, length and the width at the matatarsal is good, MX177's forefeet toe box got a really tapered narrow shape. Really pinches my toes, especially my pinky toe. Do not purchase if you actually got wide feet and your toes don't shape like a triangle.
