MX Competition Last – Featuring a larger toe box & tighter heel than the Comfort last and with slightly more overall volume than the Sport last. Lake Competition 100% Carbon Fiber Sole with Mountain Race X real rubber sole
Clarino Microfiber & mesh upper
Side mounted L6 BOA Push/Pull lacing system with power strap in the forefoot
The shoes have a nice stiff sole, along with lugs that provide good traction for walking. It took a while to get used to the side BOA, as I had been wearing shoes with center dial. I bought this version rather than the newer model because I like the Velcro set and forget strap on this one. The fit of the forefoot is excellent. I took off 1 star because the heel is a bit wider than I need, and combined with the stiff sole, causes heel slippage when walking.
I have been using these shoes in my daily commute for the last two months, and on a few gravel rides. The shoes are very nice, they feel great and they seem to be of good quality (nice leather). They are comfortable too, and the sole is stiff enough to transmit power effectively. I bought them to replace an old pair of Bontragers that lasted for a decade. For the moment these Lakes are a step up from my previous ones and I hope that they last as long.
Perfect for my wide feet
If your feet measure on the edge of the regular size, get the wide version. The shoes are very comfertable. The carbon soles provide a solid platform while riding my MTB with SPD's.
I have tried many Wide shoes, most are pure BS (its high Vol)
This one is really comfy, i'll probably have more confidence to try Lake's higher models in future.
